Unoriginal Content:

March 23rd, 2010

OK, first, like, copying is soooooo high school. Totally, right?

Perfect! Because today’s unoriginal content starts IN HIGH SCHOOL. Well, actually in junior high if you want to get technical.

When I was in 8th grade, many of my friends were in 9th grade. It’s a weird time because as a junior high student, you shouldn’t be doing high school stuff. But, it’s just one year away and the friends you grew up with are already there. So, inevitably you end up getting your first taste of trouble in junior high as your older friends indoctrinate you.

Anyhow, one of my other friends Brian was also in 9th grade. He invited my friend Patty & I over one friday night as his parents were away and his older brother was having a party! Older brother was a junior in high school. This seems like a HUGE age difference between a 13 year old and 17 year old- but even at 27 years old I am convinced I was very mature for my age. So, Patty & I went over to hang out. There isn’t much to say (read: I don’t remember much because it was 14 years ago!) about that night except for two things. Patty & I met a wonderful girl, Kristina, who would become one of my very best friends & her older brother, Scott. And, as you guys know- he’d eventually become my husband. We chatted with Kristina most of that night because she was the only other girl and was also in 9th grade at the same school as Patty. We didn’t say much to Scott, as he was older and, like, totallllly hotttt. lol. But, the main thing to take away from this night was that, I had a crush.

Forward to the start of my Freshman year of high school. I got a call after the first day of school from Patty (we went to different schools) and she had news! That hot junior from the year before was now a hot senior and WAS IN HER FIRST PERIOD CLASS! (insert appropriate SQUEEEEEE! here) Anyhow, Patty soon became friends with Kristina, her older brother and their whole crowd of friends. By the time homecoming came around, I was begging to tag along to their dance with her & her friends. I met with a bunch of the kids to take pictures before the dance and guess who was there? Yup- SCOTT! I was stoked! Unfortunately, he was not going to the dance, but I found out he’d be at the after thing at a local 24 hour restaurant. So, of course I begged my dad to stay out a bit late to go get a bite to eat after the dance. It was one of the few occasions he said yes.

After hanging out and having a great time with my friends, at some point I started talking to my future husband. He was super cute and nice and well, at 14 years old you are just superficial so that’s all I got. Being that I was quite a flirt, I somehow got him to let me borrow his sweatshirt, which I remember was brand new. He was all “I just got this TODAY!” and I said something along the lines of ” If you let me borrow it, it pretty much ensures that we will be seeing each other very soon.” He went for it and I was in possession of the hot guys sweatshirt. SCORE!

The next night, I spent the night at my friend’s house & he & Krust came over in his super cool white Jimmy truck to hang out and get his sweatshirt. At some point, we were left alone and sitting on the tailgate of his truck- We kissed for the very first time. Awwwwwww.

It’s hard to share my “how we met story” because really, looking back it all seems trivial. It was high school. There was drama. And I love yous wayyyy before there should have been. It was pretty much straight out of a 90210 episode until I was 18. No joke. There was the whole my dad refused to allow me to see him thing which made me want to even more. It was just- I dunno- high school. It’s volatile & over the top & intense.

Luckily, almost 13 years & three kids later we actually still have that high school intensity with the added bonus of maturity & an amazing history. All couples KNOW each other- but Scott & I grew up together. All my teenage memories include him. All our teenage milestones include each other. Next year, when I turn 28- half of my entire life will have been spent with my best friend. It blows my mind sometimes when I think about it.

So there you have it. Unoriginal content for you on this Tuesday has left me appreciating so much my wonderfully amazing husband, all over again.

This just made me so happy, because I love you, and well, I’m just a total sap. I was reading that and re living it all. That was my first house party, and first encounter with GLEN! Which really, I’d rather forget. I’m grateful for Patty for her party animal ways, and somehow bringing us all together (yeah, I’m including myself in this magical story, that’s right).

I love your teenage romance beginnings. It’s not trivial. You have to start somewhere.

Everything you and Scott have done together since then has set an example to me of what real Love is.

I met DH in middle school too. I love this post. Sometimes I feel out of the loop that we met so early when everyone else meets in college – but it’s nice to know there are others out there. Very sweet. And I just fell in love with your blog.

Awww, I Love this!!!! And just to make you feel better about the exchanging of “I love you”. Mercer and I did that WAY TOO SOON, as well. Like, I know we weren’t even in Love when we were saying it. haha..We laugh about it now.
