Ok, good- because I totally went to Wordcamp SF today with my good buddy Mario.
And although some of it was over my head- because I am a “mommy” blogger & don’t know much about WordPress design, plug-ins etc., some of it was fascinating. I especially loved to talk that WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg gave. Although it made me feel totally old that he is a year YOUNGER than me & is like conquering the interwebs. You guys 8.5% of all websites in the entire WORLD are run on WordPress. That is AMAZING. And in this Mommy’s opinion- I can only see that stat rising & rising after WP3 is available.
The new default theme is pretty insane. It is basically my DREAM layout- and it’s the stock deal! Customizable headers that you can change for different pages or blog posts? SO EXCITED.And I know the rest of you will be excited too! The backgrounds will also be fully customizable with the ease of creating a Twitter background. And the plug ins? OMG. I don’t even know where to start. I am SO JAZZED for this, which is appropriate as Matt’s presentation on “The State of the Word” was based on his love of jazz. The powerpoint presentation was so stylized. His attention to detail is quite amazing, even from a novice’s perspective.
Ohhhh and the plug-ins! I am DYING to try out at least two new plug-ins that are still in beta that will work with WP3.
All I can say is that I fully enjoyed my first Wordcamp conference. I got a sweet badge at check in. And those saavy cats at WP had pulled my gravatar, twitter, online moniker & website. I didn’t enter that shit when registering- and it was all on the badge. Crafty, very crafty. The blue band at the bottom of the badge said “Blogger.” I felt legit. Look at me kids! I’m a BLOGGER- even the WP people think so!
I even credits how long I’ve been using WP to spam the internets with my face & the faces of my husband, children & pets.Yup, two years. I’m practically a vet! hahaha.
After Matt’s talk, I was able to meet him and I took a picture of the two of us- but I have yet to offload it from my camera. It’s literally the funniest picture ever. Like, just not flattering for anyone involved. Hilarious.
There were other great talks as well. The first guy we saw was talking about how to optimize for SEO traffic & in the lightning rounds there were some great presenters who spoke about plug-ins, the future of gravatar & even how WP helped to spread democracy in a country ending in -stan that I have never even heard of.
It was a good day. But now, I am even more anxious for WP3. I needs it. I needs it NOW.

if that geekdom had come to a city remotely near mine, i would have SO been there! i’m a fairly new wordpress blogger, and with no previous knowledge about the techy part of blogging, i’ve been able to do quite a bit. i take no credit. it’s just that there is help out there from wordpress and other wordpress fans for so many of the quagmires in which i’ve found myself. i’m excited to browse the new plugins!

So I an assuming Word Press is better than blogspot? I just started blogging and I’m not impressed with blogspot. Do you know if there is a way to transfer over?
