We don’t have a bedtime “ritual” in our house. I don’t like the idea of everything having to be the same for the kids to sleep because in my mind it makes them less adaptable to new situations. They have a bedtime and the only “ritual” is that they go to sleep at 8PM. Sometimes they get baths. Most of the time they listen to music. We read books- sometimes. (We read daily- just not always at bedtime.) We sometimes have a snack, sometimes we dance as a family. Basically- the only predictable part about bedtime is the time & that all three go down quickly & easily. (With the exception of partybaby Sawyer who needs to be up if we have guests)
Anyways, Hudson sometimes fusses for like 2 minutes tops at bedtime and then gives up & goes to bed. But now that he has found so many new words? He is suddenly the best negotiator EVER.
Tonight it went like this:
8:00PM- I put them all in bed & turned on Death Cab: Plans.
8:00:10PM- Hudson says “Juice?” to which I reply “you’ve got a cup of water by the bed.” he says “oh.”
8:00:20PM- “Eat?” “No Hudson, you don’t need to eat. It’s bedtime.”
8:01PM- “Up!” “No Hudson, it’s bedtime. Go to sleep.”
8:01:10PM- “Light!” “No Hudson. We don’t need the light on.”
8:01:30PM- “Mommy. Mommy. Mommy! Kiss.” “OK- here’s a kiss! Love you baby! SO MUCH!” “Soooooo MUCHHHHHH!”
8:02PM- “Watch Wubbzy?” “No TV Hudson. Go to SLEEP!”
8:02:10PM he gives up, lays down & goes to sleep. WIN!
I mean seriously? It’s the cutest thing ever. But, clearly I can’t give in. Who knew they learned to negotiate before they’re 100% potty trained?! I’m kinda amazed at his skillz.

That made me laugh. Hud is so cute. Milo can't talk a lot yet but, I feel if he could he would be doing this nightly now that he's changed beds. Last night he woke up at 2am for the first time in I don't know how long and was standing at his door thats 3ft from ours. "mom….mom…..mommmmmm." It just made me laugh, I couldn't get upset. But, then he decided to stay up for 2 1/2 hours, and that I got upset about!
We don't really have a routine at all. And it seems to work for us. Other than we both but him down to bed at night, together.

Thats cool that you guys both put them down together! What a cool thing to do. We rarely ever get to do that! & tonight when we set up the big boy bed, I guess we'll see how it goes as far as the 2AM wake-ups.

So cute
We don't do a specific bedtime routine either. We found that we'd be breaking it at least 2-3 times/week so we just go with the flow and now all we have to say is "time for night night" and Madison grabs her pacifier and starts walking to her room. I love it.

Yeah that's pretty much how it goes around here too. It's much easier on everyone that way and I am thankful for it.

Awe!!
We do have a bedtime routine, but only slightly. Sometimes he has a bath, sometimes we also dance, sometimes we play with a couple of toys, do puzzles, read etc etc. But he also goes to bed by 7:30. He always lies down on the floor at 7pm lol!!!

I gotta say- when i saw the title of this I totally thought you were gonna say you were pregnant! Must be because getting pregnant is on my brain!! We decided last week to stop, stop trying to get pregnant. if that makes any sense.
this is just further proof that jasper and hudson would be bffs, the negotiating skills of my three year old are insane. He's constantly saying 'let me do_____ one more time and then no more' except he says that like 7 times. And anytime he's in time out it's ' but i love you and want to give you a puss (kiss in swedish'- he knows mamma can't resist a kiss!

OMG hilarious. NO NO NO! I am NOT pregnant. Jesus. That would be pretty much not good at this point even though I wouldn't mind an extra kiddo!

i'm a new-ish reader, and i just wanted to tell you that i love your blog and your kiddos are AWESOME! i especially like how hudson tried out like every single word he knew to try and get out of going to sleep….he's either going to be an attorney, or a dance star, as evidenced by the video of him dancing in the crib with sawyer! anyway, i think you're an awesome writer and i can't wait to follow you and your fam through life's adventures

Well, it's usually Death Cab, Neil Young or Bob Marley. They are into a lot of bedtime music! lol
