It’s Father’s Day. I haven’t been blogging much lately & I don’t know why but I’ve been feeling GUILTY about missing posts like “Happy Birthday to my Darling Mother” or “Happy Father’s Day!” but I just haven’t had anything to say & I have already said most of it on other days in other posts & I am in a weird mood where I just feel exhausted with the idea of having to TOP what I said the last holiday.

My mom is still the most amazing mom ever & I love her to infinity & beeeyonnnddd & I loved sharing her birthday with her. So, Happy Birthday Mama!

& I obviously want to wish my Husband, Father, Step-Father & Father-in-Law a Happy Father’s Day- because they RULE.

So today was easter. It’s hard to believe it was Hudson’s 3rd & Tru & Soy’s 2nd. I mean- I have a kid that has seen 3 easters?! It’s kind of mind blowing. This year was the first year I did an easter egg hunt & when it was all said & done I felt bad that I hadn’t done this last year because the twins LOVED it & last year when Hudson was their age I definitely thought he was too young.

We had a lovely brunch at Scott’s aunt & uncle’s home & they were gracious enough to also invite my mom & stepdad along as well. We watched the kids run around in the yard & ate yummy food. Though, with brunch being right at naptime I didn’t do much eating. I am SO high strung when it comes to wrangling my kids in non-childproofed homes. Tired, crabby babies & breakables in the same place makes my blood pressure rise!

But, we made it through without any incident & as a plus all 3 took a nice long nap when we got home. Happy easter, friends. Also: I hope no one was offended by Zombie Jesus. A friend from high school said it on facebook yesterday & I thought it was hilarious. First time I’d ever heard that. I must be behind the times though because for every “Happy Easter” on FB today there was one “Happy Zombie Jesus Day!” So, apparently I live under a rock.

Yesterday, I turned 28.

28 is a weird milestone for me.
I moved out of my parent’s house the day I turned 18. That was 10 years ago.
I’ve been out of high school for a decade. I mean, obviously since I am 18+10.
Weirdly enough, me turning 28 means I have been with my husband for exactly HALF of my entire life.

And though I had kind of a shitty day- my day ended on a high note. Because I have GREAT people in my life. WONDERFUL. AMAZING. Friends.

Friends who are like family- and some who actually ARE family.

A sister-in-law who made me a gorgeous purse with her bare hands.
Another sister-in-law who bought me a bottle of Dom.
Good friends who brought themselves out on a yucky Friday night with cake and champagne to gorge on Celia’s (best mexican place EVER) and then sit with me in my favorite dive bar and dance to the jukebox till they kicked us out.
A mom who watched all three kids all night so we could get out.
A dad & stepmom who somehow warned the bar we were coming & our group of 9 drank for free all night long. (of course we tipped extra)

It was a good day. There are LOTS of REALLY embarrassing photos too. But, honestly they are embarrassing enough that if you weren’t there you’ll probably never see them.

But it was epic. Because my jukebox skills made an entire bar of people literally get the fuck out of their seats and dance- while all singing along at the top of their lungs- on more than one occasion. It was a sight. And in fact- once I get my hands on the video, you’ll get to see me dancing with the random 50+ year old bartender. No joke- it was the first time I ever really danced in my life. I mean, like actual spinning around partner dancing it UP.

Clearly, this photo is gross of me but I just don’t even care. Because I had FUN.

Today was Truman & Sawyer’s first birthday. I cannot believe how quickly this past year has flown. Since April 2008 I have been pregnant 18 months- had two pregnancies, 3 children and have been a mother for 25+ months. I know that’s a couple of years- but this past year in particular really flew. I remember bringing Truman & Sawyer home like it was legitimately YESTERDAY. It makes me so proud to watch them grow, but man. I would give my left arm to have another cuddly baby & it kills me to think how long it will be until I can have one- if at all. My husband better make millions & soon, so my Duggar-Lady dreams can be fully realized! I am so excited for the future but so much of me longs for the whole thing all over again. Because it was AWESOME. And I miss it.

I woke them up with bottles with whole milk instead of formula & my horrible voice singing happy birthday. Last night was the first time they tried warm milk in bottles & today they rocked it without an ounce of formula. Super stoked on not having to spend $36 a week on formula anymore!! Now, to tackle the bottles! Hudson was done with them by 13 months- so I’ll give myself a month.

We didn’t really do anything special today for their birthday only because we are running a million different directions in preparation for their big birthday party this weekend. Luckily, Scott took the afternoon off.

We went out to REI & got them Paul Frank helmets with a gift certificate Scott got for his birthday several years ago. Now we have to find a trailer on craigslist. The new ones that are any good are SO expensive. It’s unfair. We’d be out riding every night if we had a trailer!

Then we got sandwiches & went home for the kids to take a nap. Then of course Scott got a call & had to run to work. Totally thankful for all the work- but it’s always when we have plans. Not when we are sitting around staring at the TV! When Scott got back, Lisa & I went out to try to get a few dozen things crossed off the to-do list for Saturday. As of now I have 70 yeses. And people always don’t show at the last minute- but that still makes it at least 60. So I have to feed 60. And we’re having CHEESE. ha! We went the wine/cheese route since it starts at 1PM. Anyhow- tomorrow (Friday) is going to be IN.SANE. because not only do I have to clean the entire house & do 12 loads of laundry- I have at least 2 stops to make for the party & at least 5 hours of party related work to do.

Did I mention that ~~bitch~~ TOTALLY AGREEABLE NOT GONNA RAIN ON MY PARTY Mother ~~fucker~~ Nature says it might rain on Saturday? When I’ve PAID MONEY to rent a picnic area in the park? I am holding out hope since the forecast says this:

Though on accuweather it says showers at 11am, 3pm & from 6pm on. WHAT THE EFF!?!

So think dry thoughts for us. Please.

At 11:02AM on March 3rd, you joined our family as the younger twin & the little girl I always wanted. You were 6 pounds & 8 ounces- just one ounce shy of your singleton brother’s birth weight! I was shocked! You were almost a full pound bigger than your twin brother. And gosh, you were cute!

Sawyer, you are such a joy in my life. You are so sassy & strong. Your hilarious growls & snarls when Hudson tries to take your toys crack me up. You hold your own, mama! You take no shit & I love it. I like to think that attitude is all me. I am so proud of your nature. It is a very important quality for a young woman to have.

And those EYES!? I mean, I know we have blue eyes in the family, but your eyes are BLUE. A gorgeous blue I had always hoped to see but never expected. It’s kind of mind boggling how different you look from me. I thought I’d always have a little girl who looks like me, but you look a lot like your grandmother’s baby pictures to me. And that? Is amazing. She was one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met.

I have a special place for you, my daughter. I dreamed of having you always. I held my breath in the ultrasound room as they discovered that Truman was a boy just hoping with everything in me that you were growing inside of me. And here you are.

Happy Birthday, Soy Soy. I love you more than words could explain.

11:00AM on March 2010, you were born. You were the older, smaller twin at 5 pounds & 15 ounces. You were delivered, then, your sister & once in the recovery room- they started to survey you.

Within a few minutes they whisked you off to NICU for what amounted to a 3-day stay of tubes & needles & teeny tiny blood pressure cuffs. I never once doubted your strength. And of course, you proved that because after a 3 night stay in the hospital we went home as a family.

And you haven’t stopped since.

Truman, you are not only the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen (don’t tell your siblings!) but you are also the sweetest, most gentle soul I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. You are infallibly happy. Your infectious smile & laughter gets me EVERY. TIME. You are probably the best candidate in the WORLD to be a little brother to Hudson, since any time he pushes you to the ground or steals your toy- you just get up & keep going. You don’t cry or get upset. And Hudson is lucky you have this nature, because you, sir, are a big boy! You are almost as big as him now! He has it coming when you outgrow him someday, I just know it.

Your gorgeous blonde hair & steel grey eyes just captivate me. I can’t stand how cute you are. Seriously.

My sweet boy, it has been a gift watching you grow this past year. Happy Birthday, Tutu. (Toots, Tootie, Tru) I love you with every ounce of my being.

Weekend Update with Emily Brandt.

Things have been very exciting around the Brandt household lately. We are all feeling better & the house has been buzzing with the excitement of Scott’s birthday, Truman & Sawyer’s 1st birthday, their party & the fact that they are officially walkers!!

It started a day or two ago when Truman walked about three steps from the wall to a piece of furniture. Followed the next day by Sawyer taking 3 steps while I was busy trying to coax Truman into walking. They aren’t fully walking around yet, but when they are rested & fed- they can WALK. Truman walked at least 10 steps a few different times today (sunday) and I couldn’t be more excited/fearful of what this important “step” means for my everyday life. It’s also funny because Hudson started walking about a week before his birthday talking a couple steps at a time- and the day of his 1st birthday party (3 days before his birthday) he started WALKING and never crawled again. Tomorrow is 3 days before the twins turn 1. It’s a cute little coincidence & I hope tomorrow brings us great luck in the form of Tru & Sawyer making the transition to walking full time. We will see. Hopefully, I will have videos soon!

Saturday night Scott’s aunt had us, my sister-in-laws, my father-in-law & my dad & stepmom over for a little birthday dinner for Scott. He opened gifts & we had cake. It was lovely. Then after we had a couple friends over & hung out till 2am+ & even had a drunky sleep on our couch because it was that kind of party!

Today was spent relaxing & playing with the kids. Today was also my husband Scott’s 31st birthday. So I was sure to make 3 homemade meals & make sure he had a great day. And it was great. Pure & simple. In the late afternoon Scott’s sisters came over (FYI we hang out with them 5+ times a week.) & we ate an AWESOME dinner & watched the Oscars.

- Wake up late to Mom singing Happy Birthday severely off-key.

-Watch Wow Wow Wubzzy in Mom’s bed.

-Take a long shower by yourself because you’re 2.

-Get dressed & head to Starbucks for a chocolate milk & birthday cake donut.

-Head to the toy store to play in the play area & let baby brother & sister buy you stuff.

-Go to play at Coyote Point with Dad, Mom, Aunt & siblings.

-Have lunch at Jeffrey’s.

-Buy a shitton of balloons.

-Decorate the entire house YGG style.

-Order pizza.

-Have pizza, cupcakes & open presents with parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts.

-Pass out an hour after bedtime with no complaints.

I can’t tell you how it’s possible, but my life started the day you were born. It’s that simple. It’s like your first breath was my own.
As corny as it sounds- that’s the only way I can explain what becoming a mother felt like.
And I remember those first few hours of your life. Hugging you close & imagining our lives together. I remember how grateful I felt that you were mine & how our lives would never be the same.
You have delivered more than I could have imagined & you, my son, are nothing short of amazing. You approach everything you do with everything you have. And for the last two years I have been in awe of your exuberant spirit.
I don’t have some groundbreaking way to tell you how much I love you. Just that I love you. And that I will always be here to support you. I will always be your biggest fan.
In these past two years I have watched you grow from a 6 pound 10oz blob of baby into this two year old before me. It’s hard for me to think that your new skill of walking is already over a year old & everyday you do something new to top the thing you did the day before. I couldn’t be more proud of the person you are becoming. Happy. Kind. Tenacious. Loving. Hilarious.
It’s been an amazing journey so far, & I cannot wait to see where the next 60 years takes us together.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Hudson.
