Yeah, so I mentioned that they were moving my c-section date up. I confirmed today that I am having these kids March 3rd. Unless, it’s earlier based on a problem with my NST- which I am hoping won’t happen. Continue reading '26 days is the best case scenario!?'»
This past weekend was like Hudson’s practice Christmas. We headed up to my Grandparent’s house for our family Christmas party. They live about 2.5 hours away and literally over the river and through the woods- and up into the mountains! It was a fun drive and Hudson slept most of the way. When he was awake he was quietly playing with a toy so it was perfect!
We got there around 2 and visited with all the family. There are about 35 of us. No joke. My mom is one of 7. 6 of the 7 were there. And then their spouses, my cousins, grandparents, great grandparents- my mom’s aunt- then Hudson and my cousin’s son, Ryan, my brother even brought his girlfriend! They are the youngest generation at the party. As in their Great-GREAT grandma was there.
In our family we do things earlyish usually. So, we usually do presents in the early afternoon and then eat around 3 or 4. But, one of my aunts worked on Saturday so by the time she, my uncle and cousin arrived it was already 4 or 5. So, we ate a TON and then did presents.
It was reallllly overwhelming for me because at this point Hudson was tired and 35 people worth of gifts is A LOT so he was getting buried. He also loves wrapping paper but is totally uninterested in removing it from gifts. So, I was unwrapping his stuff while Scott tried to simulateously wrangle Hudson AND write down what he got and whom it came from. It was a clusterfuck to say the least. I was starting to kinda freak out. lol. But Hudson (and Scott & I-even Truman and Sawyer!) received such awesome gifts!! We were so spoiled and there is still like 3 more days of this unwrapping!! I am gonna have to throw out half of everything we own to fit in all the new stuff!
After dinner we all hung around and then stayed overnight. In the morning my grandma made a HUGE breakfast and we all got to visit some more. It was fantastic. We headed home around 1130 yesterday morning.
After we got home and I did my best to put away all the gifts, we headed out to Target and the grocery store. Good times. Target was OUT. OF. CONTROL.
Anyways, I suppose that’s the report. I wanted to wait and post when my cousin sent me her pictures- but I suppose the picture blog will have to be separate. So, stay tuned.
But I did.
Today I got a ton for Hudson for Christmas. Like, I had wanted to purchase one thing for him just as something to open on Christmas morning. I know that sounds cheap or mean or whatever but his birthday is next month and it’s his first Christmas and I have no doubt the grandparents will spoil him silly. Plus- he has NO IDEA what is going on and would rather play with the wrapping paper anyhow. Sooooo- I fail. He has at least 5 things under that tree so far.
I also broke down and spent $30.00 for two quick snapshots of Hudson with Santa. That’s all $30.00 will buy you with Santa in the SF Bay Area. It hurts my heart! Plus, they aren’t even like on the computer so I have to go upstairs and SCAN THEM later just to share them with you guys!
But, the good news I am down to just a couple little things left to buy and then I am 110% DONE with my Christmas shopping. I shouldn’t spend any more than $100.00 more, which makes me happy since I did Christmas this year in CASH no credit cards were harmed in the making of Christmas 2009!! For this, I am very very proud!
Tonight after my feet stop throbbing I will head out again to get everything that remains. Then, I will officially be on STRIKE. I won’t so much as head to the grocery store until after Christmas. I like less than 20 blocks from the mall and it took 30 minutes to get there. I do not love holiday traffic.
I have been torn. First: as I’ve said a million times- I am poor. Like, really poor. But, my house/condo/townhouse is 1100 sq feet and by March will house my husband, myself, Hudson, Sawyer & Truman, two dogs and a cat.
That is a LOT of life in 1100 square feet. So, I have to be really careful about how I use the space and keeping things design savvy enough that people don’t think they walked into the world’s teeniest day care center. Unfortunately, high design costs money. It is a legitimate problem finding baby/kid items that are nice to look at, functional and take up little space- at a Goodwill price.
With Hudson I found a great highchair that was pretty, functional and takes up very little space. The price was hefty for a highchair but Hudson has really great aunties.
It’s one of those chairs that are so ridiculous that it doesn’t even come with the cushion- that sets you back another $40- hard earned dollars.
Anyways, I LOVE the Svan highchair and when I registered for it I figured Hudson and his FUTURE siblings could use it. Like, because there would be a gap of YEARS between my children. Clearly I fail. And now, Hudson will still need a highchair type apparatus when the twins start needing one as well. And yes, there are ways around buying more high chairs. But seriously- any mom who feeds a small baby/toddler on the regular KNOWS you cannot feed them one at a freaking time. (Yes, this has been suggested to me.) I don’t have enough time in the day. By the time breakfast was done it would be time to prepare lunch!
So, my awesome plan is that the highchair fairy will somehow bring me another Svan (or you know, I could save the $300.00) and then I will invest in this neat little booster for the Hud-B. That way, the twins will have matching highchairs and Hudson can still eat simultaneously.
And when Truman & Sawyer are out of highchairs- the Svan chair turns into a toddler chair and then an adult desk chair for their rooms. See, I SAID it was functional.
That’s my plan.
Pictured above is just a small fraction of the hand-me-down clothing (even though like HALF still had tags!) I received in the mail from bloggin’ mama Kerri and her adorable little girl Ella.
If you haven’t yet read her blog, then you really should. She is a photographer which just makes the parenting adventure even more fun!
This was just beyond a sweet gesture and I wanted to take a moment to say:
THANK YOU! You’ve made my day. And Sawyer’s!
I think this is something that is so fun about the community of mom-bloggers I have “met”. Even though we may not know each other in real life- it’s great to know we are all in this same mommy-boat together. Once Truman and Sawyer start growing out of things- I will be offering stuff up for grabs! I hope that at some point our stuff can make another family’s journey just a bit easier on the wallet, like Kerri has done for us.
I appreciate so much the fact that you thought of me to be the recipient of such wonderful clothes!
<3
But somewhere along the lines I must have done something right.
My friends threw me a surprise 20th birthday party almost 7 years ago and it was amazing. I am reallllly intuitive and I think pretty much impossible to surprise. They had this amazing party and I would have been totally surprised had two of my friend’s not left me in a room with the invitation less then an hour before the party. (They were supposed to be the ones to get me there) That was the one fatal mistake- leaving it up to two stoned boys to be in charge of getting me there.
Anyways, fast forward to today. My sister-in-laws Sarah & Krust and my Cousin & her Hubs John threw Scott and I a little surprise baby shower!! It was so sweet of them! And-Yes, I found out a few hours before the party yet again! How do you surprise that who is unsurprisable!? lol. Maybe someday!
I didn’t expect a shower this time around at all since Hudson’s shower was last November and was literally 70+ WOMEN: not even co-ed! People were ridiculously generous to Hudson and we literally got every item we wanted and more. So, this time I figured we were most likely on our own.
Anyhow it was a perfect contrast. Just our very best friends and this time the boys got to come! It was like 15 people which was great because we got to sit around and chat and hang out. Again though- we were totally spoiled and I seriously have no idea what we have done to deserve such love and awesomeness from people.
Thanks to those of you who planned it and to all of you for doing your best to keep me out of the loop. You literally had me until this morning and I think that’s a feat in itself! I love you guys so much and I cannot thank you enough for both this wonderful shower and for attempting yet again to surprise me! (and Scott.)
We have an amazing group of friends. Most of whom we are lucky enough to also be related to. Our family and support system is beyond anything I could have imagined. Learning of this pregnancy was pretty difficult for me to come to terms with and twins was even harder to wrap my head around. Our family and friends have been so helpful to us. From coming over to hold a fussy Hudson while I shower to bringing us lunch or dinner to building a bedroom for my kids with their bare hands for free. We are total charity cases. But so many wonderful people have been there for us to help with time, energy and generous gifts. We really cannot thank you all enough.
I just really love you all.
Lt to right (The besties): Lisa, Me, Stephanie, my sis-in-law Krust, my cousin Laura and my sis-in-law Sarah. LOVE these girls. Voltron for life.
So, I have been using Etsy for like 1 millisecond. And in that one millisecond, I bought a banner for Hudson’s birthday party, an idea which I blatantly stole from Kirsten, of The McClelland Family, custom invitations for Hudson’s birthday party (score! They were fill in but the nice lady is printing all the info so I don’t have to write it in!) and just now- I bought these:
Beautiful little stackable rings. I got all my family’s birthstones. Garnet for Hudson’s January birthday, Amethyst for my husband’s February birthday and an Aquamarine for my March birthday. An added bonus is that the twins Truman & Sawyer will 100% be born in February or March so they are also covered. My total with shipping was $46.- bucks and I am putting them under the tree for Christmas addressed to me from my kids and furry kids. Yeah, whatever, I had to justify it somehow.
And nowwwww- back to etsy shopping.
It’s true.
I mean, I have no idea how other kids react- but homeboy is TOUGH. For example today: He is cruising around the bedroom crawling and pulling up on furniture, walking between furniture (while holding on) and then grabs the diaper pail to use as something to support himself. I had just emptied the pail, so it didn’t have much in it- but cloth diapers get heavy. Anyways, he pulled it towards himself causing it to fall down on top of him while he just timbers backwards. Smacks his head on the carpet and is pinned by the pail. DOES NOT CRY. He just chills till I move the pail and then he gets up and goes on about his business. Then, 5 minutes later- he does the same thing. It’s kinda hilarious.
I’m hoping he continues to act with such disregard to pain. It helps me to not freak out every time he falls. And when he DOES cry after a fall- say- falling on the hardwood floor and smacking his nose- I know he is truly hurt. I like that he doesn’t sweat the small stuff.
I am hoping Sawyer & Truman are similar in this respect.
In other news, I added a TON of crap to our myregistry.com wishlist today because my stepmom had emailed asking for Christmas ideas for the baby and for us. I found wayyyyyyyy too much, so I figured I’d start using the wishlist again. It was FUN.
Today, we went to Target to get Halloween candy just in case we got trick or treat-ers tonight (of course we haven’t and it’s 8:30). We looked through the sale racks and found a few cute little girls outfits and they totaled less than $10 for like 4 items. YAY CLEARANCE! Also today, my order from Paul Frank.com came via Fed Ex. I was stoked- it only took like 2 days and I only paid $1.80 of my own money as the rest was a very generous gift certificate from a friend. Sawyer scored a hoodie, leggings and a onesie and Truman got a cool t-shirt. I know that doesn’t seem fair to Truman, but we have soooooo many boy’s clothes and NO girls clothes.
We took Hudson to the park for a while today and he played on the swings and he & I went down the slide a few times. It was a nice little walk. After that, we went to El Super for dinner and now? Yeah, we’re boring. It’s 8:30 on Halloween and we are watching a special about Oakland gang members. AWESOME. lol. At least Hudson is wearing a Halloween onesie, since we didn’t get him a costume, and I am wearing an orange shirt over a black one. Yeah, that’s our Halloween. Luckily, since no one had come to get our candy- I will get to eat hella Milky Ways! My favorite. Especially frozen. STOKED.
